Charleston – Day 7
Today has been a beautiful and sunny day. We started it by meeting a new friend, Chip Googe of Googe Photography. I learned long ago that I don’t like studio photography. The photographers do great work, it’s just to me, it seems like they put the person in stilted positions and tell them to smile and look natural. To me, that’s like looking at someone in their coffin saying, “My, don’t they look natural.”
Chip doesn’t do studio shots. He meets his clients where they enjoy life. For us that was at the waterfront park in Charleston. We posed near the fountains, on a bench, sitting in the grass — and he even worked in a pose that I wanted! When he sets up the proofs, I’ll share those!
I met Chip via Twitter, and I’m so glad I did! The last photos we had done were those studio shots done for a church directory where we were very stilted. When I contacted him about getting these done while we were here, he made the time for us, even working around the tropical storm! One thing I forgot — I didn’t tell him to remove age lines, double chins and other flaws. Oh well. What you see is what you get with me, anyway!
After our photo session, Chip headed off to enjoy lunch with his beloved wife while Jack and I decided to try out Jestine’s Kitchen. We walked by this place earlier in the week after having a wonderful meal — and the aromas of Southern cooking made our mouths water! Fried chicken, fresh vegetables, fried green tomatoes. Oh how delicious! Worth a repeat!
With full tummies on vacation, a sunny afternoon for some means touring. For the Bryants, it means nap time, so we returned to the suite. One of us took a nap. The other sat outside and read. The place has been busy all day getting ready for the Fall Tour of Homes. It felt like watching bees around the hive! After sitting outside till I got chilled — yes, chilled in September! I leaned back on the sofa for some relaxation moments.
We knew that we would be dining in tonight — remember that steak dinner from last night? Yeah, we stopped at the grocery on the way home and bought a couple of potatoes to bake and some vegies to steam.
So, we drove downtown and walked. With camera in hand, we did what I love to do. If you’d like to see the path… click here. I took a few photos and marveled at buildings that are over 250 years old and the stories that go with them.
Upon returning home, we prepared our dinner which was just as good as last night!
Tomorrow is our day to leave. I would love to be able to pack our stuff up and head downtown for a carriage ride and a tour through Calhoun Mansion, but I guess I need to leave something to do next time.
