Vanishing Act
I was asked to read and review the book, Vanishing Act, by the author, Liz Johnson.
I agreed, even though I’m not a fan of the romance genre. She calls this “romantic suspense,” so, I hoped the suspense would be worth
my time.
I was captured in the prologue! A young woman, kidnapped, held for days — and she never knew why, but she knew that horrific things happened when she’d hoped to be released and her escape was a fluke. A fluke she did not intend to mess up.
All alone, but smarter than your average kidnap victim, Nora James, goes into her own “witness protection” program. A program that kept her safe for over a year and a half, and her identity hidden from even the FBI. The story unfolds as Special FBI agent, Nate Anderson searches for her, hoping to find her before the killer who wants her dead does.
The suspense was excellent. The action was superb — the bicycle wreck and subsequent chase was stellar! The romance was… okay. Not too cheesy. Liz’s constant overtones of God’s presence in the story lends one to think she believes He’s right there, present, all the time.
I thought some of the names were a bit contrived, but hey.. I never expected to like it! Instead I enjoyed it, devouring it in less than two days of intermittent reading. Perfect to curl up before the fire or on the porch swing with for an afternoon of rest and relaxation.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Liz Johnson Books and Steeple Hill Books as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
