You might not want to read Hear No Evil giveaway

Matthew Paul Turner, author of a book I highly recommend, Churched, One Kid’s Journey to God Despite a Holy Mess, has written another book, Hear No Evil, My Story of Innocence, Music, and the Holy Ghost. It will be released tomorrow, February 16, 2010.

I have a certain appreciation for the works of Matthew, because I’ve been there and done that. The same kind of teaching. The same kind of church. The same search for freedom. He just shares the stories much better. This man who could have stored up so much anger and bitterness at the people who formed his earliest church memories, does not. He could have become one of those men who works overtime to prove how false and unloving God truly is. But He doesn’t.

In this book, you’ll learn about music. Not about quarter notes and half notes and dotted eighth notes. You’ll learn about how music touches the soul. You’ll “hear” the music of the search for God in and through the music He placed deep in Matthew’s heart. Never condemning his past, he shares story after story of how he has found peace and contentment and is ever learning more and more about God and His love for us — and HIS creativity.

I won’t say much more in this review except that if you think a syncopated beat will land you in hell, you might not want to read this book.

If you think Point of Grace and Sandi Patty are heathen women singing the devil’s music, you might not want to read this book.

If you are amazed by God’s creativity and the talents He gives people, you want to devour this book.

If you have ever been to a concert where people from all walks of life, race and denominations come together and worship and felt like that must be what heaven is like, you definitely want to read this book.

Now, the title of this post mentions a giveaway. It’s true. I’m honored to have been sent two extra copies (I’ll loan it out, but I’m not giving away mine!) of Hear No Evil.

To get in on this giveaway, simply comment below. You’ve got all week! On Friday, February 19th, I’ll spin the wheel, toss the dice, cast lots to determine which of the millions who comment will receive their very own copy of  this book.

So, get to work! Share your stories of how music has touched your life.

This book was provided for review by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group, in exchange for which this blogger will share her honest opinion about the book.
