Belt of Truth?

I shared about the spiritual armor Paul talked about in Ephesians 6:11-18 last night. I was talking to some of the women inmates at the Blount County jail. We had just nailed down that James 4:17 says, “Resist the devil and he will flee.” as being truth and real and would actually work (another story for another day).

We talked about the helmet of salvation and the importance of protecting your thoughts, that wrong thinking — stinkin’ thinkin’ — brings about sin and wrongdoing. We discussed the breastplate of righteousness and how it’s Christ who is righteous and He lends that to us. Then we got to that belt of truth thing. I’ve never been able to really understand this before and God knew that.

This incredible thing happened. As I always do when I stand up to speak, I asked God to just take over. And He did.

First, I asked the ladies what truth is. I heard different answers.  Then I asked them to turn to John 14:6. Go ahead, read that. Simple answer: Jesus is Truth.

Then I told them about my experience with my new personal torturer trainer, Logan, at the gym and something he taught me. He had explained to me about the core muscles that stretch around our midsection under all those fancy ones body builders like to work on. He had explained that when we keep that core muscle strong, we walk upright and straight, we have better balance and we have more overall strength.

As I shared that with the ladies, God spoke to me. If we will wrap Jesus (Truth) around us — strengthen our relationship with Him every day — then we will walk upright and straight, we will have better balance and we will have more overall strength. Remember, this is part of the armor against attacks of the evil one, Satan. If we have better balance and strength, we can ward off the discouragement, the condemnation, the temptations that Satan sends our way. How cool is that?

How’s your Belt of Truth?
