Being Tossed Out is Good
Not long ago, I shared how our student ministry, The ConneXion, was told that we couldn't continue to minister to the homeless where we had been. I thought that was a bad thing.
Now I can tell you that indeed, God was up to something. I love it — okay, not at first — when God moves us from where we've gotten comfortable into where He wants us.
Back on October 3rd, I was looking through a website about ministry websites that have been posted as well-done sites and I saw one for KnoxLife. I realized very quickly that these folks are meeting in a coffee house just up the street from where we've been setting up! "Wow!" I thought. "I'll bet these folks know some things we might do!"
I hit the contact button and send my request. Within a few days, Eric Swanson contacted me to get together and talk about it — he'd even read my post about our problem and knows the man who had approached us. Not only that, he lives very close to the area where we're serving! (How cool is that of God to set us up that way?)
When I heard from Eric, I was in Atlanta, and told him that we would be in place on Sunday, October 11th. When he came down last night, I could see God's fingerprints all over. I introduced him to Greg and Brian, our leaders. Before the night was out, Eric had given Greg a tour of the area, showing him places to visit to get some of the homeless folks to come out for a burger, the coffee house where they meet, his own apartment and several places where we can set up to share food and Jesus with people who are left out and undone.
Getting tossed off that property was a fabulously wonderful thing. God led us to new places, new people to minister to and a new partnership with people who want so join with us in serving our Lord this way. Can't get much better than that.
Stay tuned, I'm sure there's much more to come!
